Career
Tom Chorske began his career as a hockey player on the team on the Southwest High Lakers high school team . After completing his high school career, Chorske won the first Minnesota Mr. Hockey award in calendar year 1985, which honors the best high school player in the US state of Minnesota . He was then selected in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as the 16th player of the Canadiens de Montréal . First, however, he attended between 1985 and 1989 the University of Minnesota , for whose ice hockey team he played in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Only the 1987/88 season he spent with the US national team , with which he was preparing for the 1988 Winter Olympics , but he was deleted from the Olympic squad shortly before the competition.
During the 1989/90 season Chorske made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Canadiens de Montréal. In his rookie year , he scored three goals in 14 games and gave one assist. However, he spent the rest of the season with Montréals farm team , the Canadiens de Sherbrooke from the American Hockey League . After another year in Montréal, he was given to the New Jersey Devils on September 20, 1991 together with Stéphane Richer in exchange for Kirk Muller and Roland Melanson . In the NHL team New Jersey he had a regular place in the following four years and won the prestigious Stanley Cup with his team in the 1994/95 season . He was also in the 1992/93 season in six games for the Utica Devils in the American Hockey League on the ice. During the Stanley Cup 1994/95 season he played seven times for the HC Devils Milano in the Italian Serie A .
From 1995 to 1997 Chorske was under contract with the New York Islanders in the NHL. He then stayed with none of his clubs for an extended period and played for New York's league rivals Washington Capitals , Calgary Flames and Pittsburgh Penguins until 2000 . Following the 2000/01 season, which he had spent with the Houston Eros in the International Hockey League , the former national player ended his active career at the age of 34. After the end of his career, he worked, among other things, in the 2006/07 season as a co-commentator for the radio broadcasts of the NHL games of his ex-club New Jersey Devils.
International
For the USA , Chorske took part in the 1986 World Junior Championships and the 1989 , 1996 , 1998 and 1999 World Championships . He won the bronze medal both in 1986 with the juniors and ten years later with the A selection.
