The playoffs for the Stanley Cup the year 1995 began on May 6, 1995 and ended on 24 June 1995 with the 4: 0 win the New Jersey Devils over the Detroit Red Wings . The Devils, in Claude Lemieux to the Conn Smythe Trophy winning Most Valuable Player presented the playoffs, Participation Final won at their first and their first Stanley Cup franchise credit history. In addition, New Jersey was the fifth-seeded team, the lowest-seeded team in league history to triumph in the final. This was only surpassed by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2012 playoffs . The defeated Red Wings, on the other hand, who provided the top scorer in Sergei Fjodorow this post-season , were in their first final since 1966.

The Canadiens de Montréal missed the playoffs for the first time since 1970 , so the third-longest series of consecutive playoffs at that time came to an end. Furthermore, for the first time since 1980, no Canadian team reached the conference finals or semi-finals.

mode

After the two division winners from each conference as well as the six other teams with the highest points in the conference have qualified, the playoffs , which are held in the knockout system , start . The division winner with the best points meets the eighth and thus the worst qualified team, number 2 of this ranking list meets number 7, etc. This mode allows one or more qualified teams to have more points than one of the division winners. The same principle is used to determine the matches in the second playoff round.

Each conference then plays its winner in the conference quarter-finals, conference semifinals and conference finals, who then compete in the final for the Stanley Cup . All series in each round are played in best-of-seven mode, which means that a team needs four wins to reach the next round. The higher seeded team has home rights in the first two games, the next two the opposing team. If no winner has emerged from the round by then, home rights will change from game to game. The higher-ranked team has a home advantage in games 1, 2, 5 and 7, i.e. four of the maximum seven games. The winner of the Eastern Conference will receive the Prince of Wales Trophy and the winner of the Western Conference will receive the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl .

In the case of games that remain a draw after the regular playing time of 60 minutes, overtime follows . It ends with the first goal scored ( Sudden Death ) .

Stanley Cup winner

The Stanley Cup winner New Jersey Devils traditionally had a total of 43 people, including 25 players and some officials, including the coaching staff and management, engraved on the base of the trophy. Among them was assistant coach Larry Robinson , who had already won the Stanley Cup five times as a player. Among the scouts was Marcel Pronovost , whose name was engraved on the cup for the sixth time. The rule for the players is that they should either have played 41 games for the team in the regular season or one game in the final series. But there are always exceptions.

The 25 players in New Jersey consisted of two goalkeepers, eight defenders and 15 attackers, including four Europeans : Albelin from Sweden, Holík from the Czech Republic and four Europeans from Brylin and Selepukin from Russia . With Neal Broten , 16 years after the USA's Olympic victory at the Miracle on Ice, the second player from the roster after Ken Morrow won the Stanley Cup.
