Career

Baron spent his junior years between 1984 and 1986 with the Vernon Lakers in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League . After the defender in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft was selected in the eighth round in 167th place by the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League , he first enrolled at the University of North Dakota and played parallel to his studies for the following three Years for the university ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With the team, Varon won the national championship in addition to the division championship of the WCHA in his rookie season . Overall, he stayed at the university until the spring of 1989 before he was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers.

The defender made his debut during the 1988/89 season for Philadelphia's farm team , the Hershey Bears , in the American Hockey League . The defensive player was also active for the Bears in the following two game years, but after his NHL debut in the 1989/90 season, from 1990 onwards, he was increasingly used for Philadelphia in the NHL. Shortly before the beginning of the 1991/92 playing year , Baron was given to the St. Louis Blues in September 1991 together with Ron Sutter and in exchange for Dan Quinn and Rod Brind'Amour . In the Blues, the Canadian spent the following five seasons before he was transferred to the Canadiens de Montréal at the beginning of his sixth year in St. Louis . With him also moved Shayne Corson and a five-round suffrage in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft to Montréal, while the St. Louis Blues received Pierre Turgeon , Rory Fitzpatrick and Craig Conroy .

For the Canadiens, the defender played only 60 games during the 1996/97 season , since he was exchanged with Chris Murray for Dave Manson from the Phoenix Coyotes in March 1997 . With the Coyotes, Baron stayed at the end of the 1997/98 season , where he did not extend his expiring contract. As a free agent , the defender took advantage of the Vancouver Canucks' interest and returned to his home province. In total, Baron played for the Canucks for five years. For his last NHL season, he returned in the summer of 2003 as a free agent for the St. Louis Blues. He then ended his active career in the summer of 2004 at the age of 37.
