history

As early as the 1930s, amateur ice hockey was played between college teams in Hershey. In the 1931/1932 season, the team from Swathmore AC carried its games in the city. The large crowd caused Milton S. Hershey and John B. Sollenberger to found their own team, which initially played in the Amateur Hockey League against teams from the area. This team has officially been known as the Bears since 1936.

Also in 1936 they moved to the new hall, the Hersheypark Arena , and two years later they joined the American Hockey League (AHL). The Hershey Bears are the oldest, permanent team in the AHL and also the most successful with currently eleven Calder Cup victories.

The Bears celebrated another title in June 2006 when they defeated the Milwaukee Admirals in six games in the final. After they had previously missed the play-offs twice in a row , they beat the Norfolk Admirals and the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins in four games each in the first two rounds . In the Eastern Conference final, they defeated the Portland Pirates in overtime of the seventh game with a goal from Eric Fehr . They then won the Cup against Milwaukee.

Both the 2008/09 season and the 2009/10 season ended the Hershey Bears with the title win.
