history
Fredericton Express was founded in 1981 as a franchise for the American Hockey League . In the seven years of their existence they entered into collaborations with the Québec Nordiques and the Vancouver Canucks from the National Hockey League . In their first season, Fredericton still missed qualifying for the playoffs. The following season they reached the second playoff round, in which they were defeated in the best-of-seven series by the Maine Mariners 2-4 . After three years in which they failed successively against the Nova Scotia Voyageurs , Sherbrooke Canadiens and Adirondack Red Wings in the first playoff round, they missed the playoffs in the 1986/87 season for the second time in their history.
The last season was also the most successful. The team won first in the first playoff round 4-2 against the Sherbrooke Canadiens and in round 2 against the Maine Mariners. Only in the finals of the Calder Cup was Frederiction's winning streak slowed. The Hershey Bears were clearly defeated with four losses in four games.
Following this season, the team was relocated to Halifax , Nova Scotia , where they then began playing in the AHL as Halifax Citadels .
