Michael Lloyd "Mike" Hough (born February 6, 1963 in Montreal , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 751 games for the Nordiques de Québec , Florida Panthers and New York Islanders in the course of his active career between 1979 and 1999 of the National Hockey League on the position of the left winger . In the 1991/92 season he was the ninth team captain in the franchise history of the Nordiques de Québec.

Career

Hough spent between 1978 and 1983 an eventful junior time, which led him from the Mississauga Reps first in the summer of 1979 to the Toronto Marlboros in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League (OMJHL). Despite 70 scorer points this year, the striker moved to the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OPJHL) for the Dixie Beehives after just one year . He was ignored in the summer of 1981 in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft and changed teams again. Hough returned to the now renamed Ontario Hockey League (OHL) league and ran there for the Kitchener Rangers , in whose ranks Brian Bellows , Al MacInnis and Scott Stevens played on. With the Rangers he won at the end of the 1981/82 season the double from the J. Ross Robertson Cup of the OHL and the Memorial Cup of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). In the 1982 NHL Entry Draft he was finally selected in the ninth round in 181st place by the Nordiques de Québec from the National Hockey League (NHL).

After another season with the Kitchener Rangers, the 20-year-old switched to the professional field in the summer of 1983. There the winger spent the first three years - with the exception of two missions for the Nordiques in the Stanley Cup playoffs in 1985  - exclusively with the farm team Fredericton Express in the American Hockey League (AHL). Despite solid point yields in the AHL, Hough was only able to establish himself slowly from the 1986/87 season in the Québec squad and thus in the NHL. Up until the 1988/89 season - then with the new cooperation partner Halifax Citadels  - the attacker also had significant periods of play in the AHL. It was not until the 1989/90 game year that Hough was in his seventh year as a professional permanently in the Franco-Canadians' squad. As a result, he continuously increased his points and achieved a personal best in the 1991/92 season with 38 scorer points. During this season he also acted as the ninth team captain in the franchise history of the Nordiques de Québec.

In June 1993, Hough's ten-year time in the Nordiques organization ended when he was transferred to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Reggie Savage and Paul MacDermid in the run-up to the 1993 NHL Expansion Draft . However, Hough only stayed six days with the franchise from the US state capital, as he was selected in the expansion draft himself by the newly founded Florida Panthers . There he helped establish the team in the league over the next four years. In the Stanley Cup playoffs in 1996 he reached the finals of the Stanley Cup with the team . In the summer of 1997, the offensive player left the Panthers and joined the New York Islanders as a free agent . There he worked until the end of 1998, in addition to some assignments for the Utah Grizzlies farm team in the International Hockey League (IHL). Through a loan deal, he let the 1998/99 season end with the Lowell Lock Monsters in the AHL, before he declared his career at the age of 36 for over.
