history

1988 was the AHL - farm team of the Quebec Nordiques formed after this the Fredericton Express of Fredericton , New Brunswick to Halifax , Nova Scotia had resettled. The name of the franchise refers to a fort in the Halifax area. The move of the franchise closed the gap left by the Nova Scotia Oilers with their 1988 move.

In the first two seasons Halifax reached the playoffs, but was eliminated in the best-of-seven series. First they failed in 1988/89 with 0: 4 at the Moncton Hawks , a year later they were defeated by the Sherbrooke Canadiens with 2: 4. In the last three seasons of its existence, the team could not build on the initial success and missed the playoffs. The low point was the 1991/92 season, when the Citadels only got 67 points and were fifth in their division.

In 1993, the franchise was relocated to Cornwall , Ontario , where it continued to serve as the Cornwall Aces as the Nordiques farm team in the AHL. The void left by the departure of the Citadels was closed in 1994 by the Halifax Mooseheads from the QMJHL .
