Iiro Petteri Järvi (born March 23, 1965 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played for the Québec Nordiques in the National Hockey League and the Frankfurt Lions in the German Ice Hockey League from 1982 to 2000 .
Career
Iiro Järvi began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown with HIFK Helsinki , for whose professional team he was active in the SM-liiga from 1983 to 1988 . During the 1984/85 season, the attacker also completed 15 games for his league rivals Reipas Lahti . In the 1985/86 season he failed with the HIFK only in the playoff final for the Finnish championship. From 1988 to 1990 he played for the Québec Nordiques in the National Hockey League , of which he had already been selected in the third round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft as the 54th player. At the same time, he was also on the ice for their farm team , the Halifax Citadels , in the American Hockey League in the 1989/90 season . With these he also began the following season, after only five games in the 1990/91 season, however, switched to EC KAC , with which he became Austrian champion .
From 1991 to 1996 Järvi played again for his home club HIFK Helsinki in the Finnish SM-liiga before he moved to the Frankfurt Lions from the German Ice Hockey League for the 1996/97 season. In the following season, the former NHL player and his ex-club EC KAC took second place in the Alpine League . After one more year in Finland with SaiPa Lappeenranta and the Newcastle Riverkings in the Ice Hockey Superleague , the 1988 Olympian ended his career at the age of 35.
International
For Finland , Järvi took part in the Junior World Championships in 1983 , 1984 and 1985 and the World Championships in 1987 and 1989 . He was also in Finland's squad at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and the Canada Cup in 1987 and 1991 .
