The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks were an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League that was based in Cincinnati , Ohio , and played its games in Cincinnati Gardens .

history

The club emerged from the relocation of the Baltimore Bandits to Cincinnati in 1997 and were until 2001/02 farm team of the Detroit Red Wings and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , from the 2002/03 season only for the Ducks.

Before the Mighty Ducks, the following teams played in Cincinnati:

In the summer of 2005, the Red Wings extended their cooperation agreement with the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim signed one with the Portland Pirates , so that the team from Cincinnati no longer had an NHL partner team. Therefore, the team's management requested the team's voluntary withdrawal for the 2005/06 season , which was also granted to him. In October 2005 the team was renamed the Cincinnati RailRaiders . Management tried to find a partner team in the NHL for the following season, but both these attempts and the sale of 2,000 season tickets for 2006/07 failed.

In October 2006 it was reported that a Windsor , Ontario company was planning to purchase and relocate the team. However, these plans were not implemented.

On March 19, 2007, the AHL announced that the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks are moving to Rockford, Illinois and will be renamed the Rockford IceHogs . After the Mighty Ducks moved, a team was re-established in Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Cyclones , who play in the ECHL and won their first Kelly Cup in 2008 .
