Christopher "Chris" Kunitz (born September 26, 1979 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 1200 games for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Anaheim Ducks , Atlanta Thrashers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Tampa Bay Lightning and Chicago Blackhawks played in the National Hockey League on the left winger position . Kunitz won the Stanley Cup four times , one with the Anaheim Ducks and three times with the Pittsburgh Penguins, with whom he spent most of his career. At the international level, the striker won the gold medal with the Canadian national team at the 2014 Winter Olympics .
Career
The 1.83 m tall striker played for the Ferris State University team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association before he was signed on April 1, 2003 by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as a free agent .
In his first season he stood next to his missions in AHL - Farm Team Cincinnati Mighty Ducks , in 21 regular season games in Anaheim on the ice, scoring six assists . The 2004/05 lockout season he spent exclusively with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, at the beginning of the following season the left-shooter completed two games for Atlanta Thrashers , but returned to Anaheim. In the 2006/07 season , Kunitz won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks . On February 26, 2009 Kunitz was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins together with Eric Tangradi for defenseman Ryan Whitney . In the same year he won the Stanley Cup with his new team. In the final, the Penguins won 4-3 against the Detroit Red Wings . Kunitz achieved 14 scorer points in the playoffs. He was able to repeat winning the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons and at that time became the only active NHL player with four titles.
Still, after eight successful seasons, the striker and the penguins parted ways when he joined the Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent in July 2017 . In July 2018, Kunitz signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks , in whose jersey he played his 1000th regular season game in the NHL during the 2018/19 season. At the end of July 2019, after playing 1,200 NHL games at the age of 39, Kunitz announced the end of his active career.
International
Kunitz represented his home country at the 2008 World Cup . In the course of the tournament, the winger contributed two goals and five assists to the silver medal win of the Canadian selection . In the final against Russia , he scored the 2-1 goal for Canada, but the Russians won the game in overtime . In 2014 he became Olympic champion with the Canadian national team.
