Cameron Douglas Clifford Severson (born August 15, 1978 in Canora , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player ( winger ) who last played for the Mississippi RiverKings in the Central Hockey League .
Career
Cam Severson played in the Western Hockey League for several years early in his career . During this time he was selected in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks in the eighth round as 192nd. In recent years he has been a regular player in the American Hockey League , including the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks and most recently the Syracuse Crunch . The defensively strong center also played 37 times in the National Hockey League for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Columbus Blue Jackets .
For the 2006/07 season he signed a one-year contract with the Straubing Tigers , his first stop in Europe. In November 2007 Severson's contract with the Straubing Tigers was terminated prematurely, after which he moved to the EHC Linz in the Austrian ice hockey league . Between 2008 and 2009 he was the first former NHL player to play for Steaua Bucharest in Romania before returning to North America.
Severson and his wife run an ice hockey school in his North American homeland this summer.
