Oli Bott

Oli Bott (* 1974 in Hofheim am Taunus ) is a German jazz vibraphonist, orchestra conductor and composer.

Career

Oli Bott first learned his trade on the vibraphone in his native town with the percussionist Detlef Biedermann. He completed his music studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston (with Gary Burton , Bob Brookmeyer , Phil Wilson , Greg Hopkins , John LaPorta , Hal Crook, among others ) in 1996 with a diploma in jazz composition.

Act

Since then he has been a freelance musician in Berlin and has received several grants from the Berlin Senate and composition commissions for his own jazz orchestra. Among other things, he won the NDR music prize for jazz conductors, 1st prize at the Leipzig improvisation competition, the Europ Jazz Contest and the Wayne Shorter Award, USA. Oli Bott is currently active as a musician in various bands. In addition to his work as a composer and conductor for his twelve-person "Oli Bott Orchestra", he is a. a. also busy as a musician with his quartet "Vibratanghissimo". Both his own compositions and compositions by Astor Piazzolla , which were originally composed for bandoneon and are now being reinterpreted by him on the vibraphone, belong to the repertoire of this group. The other three members are Juan Lucas Aisemberg on viola , Arnulf Ballhorns on double bass and the pianist Tuyêt Pham. With his partner Thomas Wallisch on guitar he can be heard in the "Thomas Wallisch & Oli Bott Duo", also with his own compositions.
