The Hartford Wolf Pack is an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League . It plays at the XL Center (15,635 seats) in Hartford , Connecticut . The club colors are blue, red and white. The Wolf Pack has been the New York Rangers ( NHL ) farm team since its inception ; the ECHL cooperates with the Maine Mariners .

history

The club was founded in 1997 after the resident NHL team Hartford Whalers moved to Raleigh and became the Carolina Hurricanes . Previously, the team was known as Binghamton Rangers , Binghamton Whalers and since 1926 in the CAHL as Providence Reds . The team's first game took place on October 4, 1997.

There is a special rivalry with the Lowell Lock Monsters and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers . The club celebrated its greatest success in 2000 when they prevailed in the play-offs and won the Calder Cup .

On November 27, 2010, the team was renamed Connecticut Whale . The new Marketing Director who had previously owned the Hartford Whalers decided to do this. From the 2013/14 season , however , the franchise played again under the former name of Hartford Wolf Pack .
