Andrew Hutchinson (born March 24, 1980 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract with the KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the Continental Hockey League .
Career
The 1.88 m tall defender initially played in the youth program of the US ice hockey association USA Hockey in various lower-class leagues. The right- shooter spent his college years on the Michigan State University team , for which he was on the ice in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the 1999 NHL Entry Draft , the defender was finally selected as the 54th in the second round by the Nashville Predators .
However, Hutchinson was initially only used by the Predators for the Milwaukee Admirals farm team in the American Hockey League . It was not until the 2003/04 season that the defender completed his first games in the NHL, but due to the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , Hutchinson had to return to the AHL. After the league's forced break, the American was transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes . With the franchise from Raleigh Andrew Hutchinson won in 2006 the Stanley Cup , before moving in July 2007 in a swap deal to Joe Barnes and a third-round draft pick to the New York Rangers . However, they only used the defender as captain of their cooperation partner, the Hartford Wolfpack , in the AHL. There he scored the most points scorer as a defender and was also elected to the AHL First All-Star Team for the 2007/08 season . Hutchinson also won the Eddie Shore Award for the AHL's best defender.
After this successful season, the American signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the summer of 2008 , which initially also mainly used him in the American Hockey League. On November 30, 2008 Andrew Hutchinson was transferred to the Dallas Stars in exchange for the Finnish junior player Lauri Tukonen . In July 2010, he moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins , who mainly used him in the farm team at the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins. In late June 2011 he signed a contract with Barys Astana from the Continental Hockey League .
Mid-July 2013, signed a one year contract with the Hutchinson EV train from the National League A .
In the 2014/15 season he was under contract with the Croatian record champions KHL Medveščak Zagreb from the Continental Hockey League .
