The Philadelphia Phantoms were an ice hockey team in the American Hockey League . They played in the Wachovia Spectrum (17,380 seats) in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . After the 2008/09 season , the team was relocated to Glens Falls , New York .

history

The Phantoms were founded in 1996 as a farm team for the NHL club Philadelphia Flyers , with whom they have cooperated ever since. They also played a few games per season in their arena, the Wachovia Center .

In their history, the Phantoms had won the Calder Cup twice as winners of the play-offs (1998 and 2005). In their first season they were the best team in the league after the preliminary round, but were eliminated early in the final round. The following years were very changeable - either you belonged to the best teams in the league or you missed the play-offs.

On February 4, 2009, Comcast Spectator announced the sale of the Phantoms to the Brooks Group of Pittsburgh. In April 2009, the league management announced that the franchise would be relocated to Glens Falls , New York .
