The St. John's IceCaps were a Canadian ice hockey franchise from St. John's in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador , the 2015 to 2017 in the American Hockey League played. It acted as the farm team of the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League and was created after the resettlement of the Hamilton Bulldogs . In 2017 it was transferred to the Rocket de Laval .

history

In March 2015, the Canadiens de Montréal announced that they had acquired the Hamilton Bulldogs franchise from the previous main owner Michael Andlauer. At the same time it was announced that the franchise will be relocated to St. John's . That was only made possible by a major reorganization of the American Hockey League, which included the original IceCaps franchise , which played in St. John's from 2011-2015 and served as the Winnipeg Jets' farm team , when Manitoba Moose returned to Winnipeg. As a result, the "new" IceCaps took over large parts of the existing structures, for example they play in the same stadium ( Mile One Center ) and only matched the colors of the logo to those of the Canadiens (blue-white-red).

Sylvain Lefebvre , who had already looked after the Bulldogs since 2012, remained head coach . The Brampton Beasts were presented as the new ECHL farm team.

After the first season of the IceCaps, the Canadiens announced in July 2016 that the team would be relocated to Laval in the province of Québec for the 2017/18 season . It has been operating there since then as Rocket de Laval .
