The Colorado Eagles are an American ice hockey team from Loveland , Colorado . The team has been playing in the American Hockey League since the 2018/19 season , having previously played in the ECHL and Central Hockey League . The franchise has been cooperating with the Colorado Avalanche from the NHL since 2016 .

history

The Colorado Eagles were founded in 2003 as a franchise for the Central Hockey League . In the eight years that the team has been with the CHL, the Eagles finished at least second in their respective division in every season. Her greatest success was winning the Ray Miron President's Cup in the 2004/05 and 2006/07 seasons . In both title wins, the team beat the Laredo Bucks . In 2008, 2009 and 2011, the Eagles lost in the finals to the Arizona Sundogs , Texas Brahmas and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs . On January 14, 2009, the Colorado Eagles hosted the CHL All-Star Games, in which the Eagles beat a team of the best CHL players 8: 4.

At the end of May 2011, the addition of the franchise as an expansion team to the ECHL for the 2011/12 season was announced. For the 2011/12 season , a cooperation agreement was signed with the Winnipeg Jets from the National Hockey League . After this ended after the 2012/13 season, the Eagles cooperated with the Calgary Flames in the 2014/15 season .

In the 2016/17 season, the Eagles won the ECHL championship and thus their first Kelly Cup . As a result, they managed to defend their title in the 2017/18 season, so that they moved to the American Hockey League as two-time Kelly Cup winners .
