The Florida Everblades are an American ice hockey team from Estero , Florida . The team has played in the ECHL since 1998 .
history
The Florida Everblades was founded in 1998 as a franchise of the East Coast Hockey League . In its first year, the team reached the ECHL playoffs for the first time, in which, after a bye and a victory over the Birmingham Bulls, they were only defeated in the third round by the eventual champions Mississippi Sea Wolves . The Florida franchise had its most successful period to date from 2003 to 2005, when they reached the Kelly Cup playoff finals twice in a row under Canadian coach and former NHL player Gerry Fleming . In both finals, however, you lost to the opponent - first the Idaho Steelheads and then the Trenton Titans .
In June 2010, Greg Poss was introduced as the Florida Everblades head coach. The Everblades have been the Tampa Bay Lightning farm team since the 2010/11 season . In the 2011/12 season, the Everblades won all eleven home games during the finals on their route to the first Kelly Cup win in history and also defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers 4-1 in the final series of the ECHL championship after the Florida franchise had also clearly defeated the Greenville Road Warriors , Elmira Jackals and Kalamazoo Wings . Striker Brandon MacLean scored the decisive goal for the first triumph in the fifth game of the final series during extra time . Goalkeeper John Muse then received the award for most valuable player in the playoffs.
