The Tallahassee Tiger Sharks were an American ice hockey franchise from Tallahassee , Florida that played in the East Coast Hockey League from 1994 to 2001 . The Tiger Sharks played their home games at the Leon County Civic Center .
history
The franchise was founded in 1994 as the successor team to the Huntsville Blast , which had moved to Tallahassee , and began playing in the East Coast Hockey League . The first head coach was Terry Christensen . In their first season, the team qualified for the play-offs. In the first two rounds, successes against Hampton Roads Admirals and Birmingham Bulls made it into the semi-finals. In five games, the team narrowly defeated the Richmond Renegades and failed to qualify for the finals of the Riley Cup . In the following season, the team made it to the finals with a record of 42 wins and 22 defeats, and the 90 points earned in the regular season also set a franchise record.
Again the Tigers Sharks failed in the third round, this time in four games against the Charlotte Checkers . In the 1996/97 season, they qualified for the play-offs for the third time in a row. In contrast to the first two appearances, the team fell by the wayside in the first round and lost in three games against the Pensacola Ice Pilots . After the play-offs were not reached for the first time in the following year, the previous head coach Terry Christensen was replaced by Jeff Brubaker . When this one with the team also missed the finals, Brubaker was replaced after a year by his predecessor. In the last two game years of the franchise, the entry into the play-offs was missed. Shortly thereafter, the franchise was dissolved and relocated to Macon , Georgia . The Macon Whoopee emerged as the successor team .
