The Manchester Monarchs were an American ice hockey franchise based in Manchester , New Hampshire . The team played in the ECHL between the 2015/16 and 2018/19 seasons and served as the Los Angeles Kings farm team during this time .

history

In January 2015, the American Hockey League announced an extensive restructuring for the 2015/16 season , in the course of which a new Pacific Division was founded. As a result, all ECHL franchises based in California swapped places with their AHL cooperation partners. In the case of the Manchester Monarchs, both team names were retained, so that the AHL- Manchester Monarchs played as Ontario Reign in the AHL, while the ECHL- Ontario Reign henceforth participated in the ECHL game operations as Manchester Monarchs. The Los Angeles Kings remained cooperation partners of both teams . Richard Seeley was introduced as the Monarchs' first head coach .

After the Monarchs' first year at ECHL, the franchise was sold to PPI Sports by the Anschutz Entertainment Group , which also owns the Los Angeles Kings . The connection as the Kings farm team was retained. In January 2019 it was announced that the team is looking for a new owner again. When this could not be found by the end of the 2018/19 season , the team stopped playing.
