history
The Utah Grizzlies have played in the ECHL since the 2005/06 season and have reached the play-offs seven times since then .
The current franchise was founded in 1988 under the name Virginia Lancers as a founding member of ECHL, where it was based in Vinton ( Virginia ) until 1993 , but has played under the name Roanoke Valley Rebels since 1990 and last season as Roanoke Valley Rampage . 1993 was first relocated and played a game while in Huntsville ( Alabama ) and Huntsville Blast before another move to Tallahassee ( Florida ) was where the team than to 2001 Tallahassee Tiger Sharks played. Another season spent the team as Macon Whoopee in Macon ( Georgia ) before it before the final relocation to West Valley for one season as the Lexington Men O'War in Lexington ( Kentucky spent).
Between 1995 and 2005 a team of the same name played in Salt Lake City , with the same team logo except for the colors, from 1995 to 2001 initially in the International Hockey League and after its dissolution from 2001 to 2005 in the American Hockey League . This team was relocated to Cleveland ( Ohio ), where they have been playing under the name Lake Erie Monsters since the 2007/08 season . Before that, an ice hockey team from Salt Lake City played with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles between 1984 and 1994 in the IHL, which then continued to play as Detroit Vipers until the league was dissolved.
