The Reading Royals are an American ice hockey team from Reading , Pennsylvania . The team has played in the ECHL since 2001 .

history

The Columbus Chill from the East Coast Hockey League withdrew from active gaming operations in the summer of 1999 to make room for the newly founded Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League . After two years of inactivity, the franchise was relocated to Reading, Pennsylvania. The team then started a cooperation with the Los Angeles Kings from the NHL and was renamed Reading Royals based on their names (with the Manchester Monarchs and Ontario Reign , other farm teams of the Kings also have names that refer to the nobility ). After the end of the collaboration with the Los Angeles Kings, Reading has been a partner of the Toronto Maple Leafs since 2008 and of the Boston Bruins since 2009 .

In the 2012/13 season , the team won the Kelly Cup for the first time after defeating the Stockton Thunder in five games in the playoff final series . Previously, the Reading Royals' greatest sporting success to date was reaching the third playoff round in the 2003/04, 2007/08 and 2009/10 seasons, in which they won the Florida Everblades (2004) and the Cincinnati Cyclones (2008 and 2010 ) documents.
