Antoine Roussel (born November 21, 1989 in Roubaix ) is a French ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League since July 2018 . The winger previously spent six years with the Dallas Stars .
Career
Antoine Roussel began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth division of the Dragons de Rouen . From there he moved to Canada to the Saguenéens de Chicoutimi , for which he was active in the junior league LHJMQ from 2006 to 2010 . However, the striker was never drafted , but signed for the 2010/11 season as a free agent with the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League . At the same time he played 13 games for their cooperation partner Reading Royals from the ECHL . For the 2011/12 season he moved within the AHL to the Chicago Wolves . In July 2012 he was awarded a two-year contract by the Dallas Stars from the National Hockey League .
Roussel made his debut in the NHL on February 1, 2013 when he played against the Phoenix Coyotes and scored the first goal of his NHL career. He was only the eighth French-born player to play in the NHL.
After six years in Dallas, his expiring contract was not renewed in the summer of 2018, so he signed a four-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks in July 2018 .
International
For France, Roussel took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championship Division I 2006 and the U20 Junior World Championship Division I 2009 . At senior level, he stood for the first time at the 2012 World Championships in the squad of his country . Also at the World Championships in 2013 , 2014 , when he was elected to the all-star team of the tournament and together with the Russian Sergei Plotnikow was the second best scorer behind his compatriot Viktor Tikhonov , and in 2015 he played for the French in the top division.
