Loui Eriksson (born July 17, 1985 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League since July 2016 . With the Swedish national team , the left winger won the gold medal at the 2013 World Cup and the silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics .
Career
Loui began playing ice hockey at Lerum BK and was already playing at the age of 16 when he was 16. As a teenager he switched to Västra Frölunda HC . With Frölunda he then also started his professional career in the Swedish Elitserien . He was selected in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft as 33rd by the Dallas Stars . He then played in the 2005/06 season for the Iowa Stars , where he posted 31 goals and 29 assists in 78 games. In the following season he moved to the Dallas Stars in the NHL. In the 2006/07 season he was used 59 times, scoring six goals and giving 13 assists. In the playoffs, he posted an assist in four games.
Since then, he has been part of the team's permanent squad and forms the front row with Brad Richards and James Neal . After the end of the 2010/11 regular season , Eriksson was nominated for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy together with Nicklas Lidström and Martin St. Louis .
During the NHL lockout , the Swede was in December 2012 by the HC Davos from the National League A committed. In July 2013 he was transferred to the Boston Bruins along with Joe Morrow , Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser in exchange for Tyler Seguin , Rich Peverley and Ryan Button . After three years in Boston, he did not receive a new contract from the Bruins after the 2015/16 season, so he joined the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent in July 2016 . There he signed a six-year contract that should bring him an annual salary of $ 6 million.
International
At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki , Eriksson was again part of the national team and won the gold medal with it. At the 2014 Olympics, he won the silver medal with the Swedish national team. Furthermore, he represented his home country at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 , where he achieved third place with the team.
