Allsvenskan , called HockeyAllsvenskan since the 2005/06 season , is the second highest division in Swedish ice hockey after the SHL . Until 2009 the league comprised 16 participants. Due to a reduction in the number of participants, only 14 teams have played in the league since then.

- After the season, four teams from the Allsvenskan and the two worst teams from the Elitserien compete against each other in the Kvalserien to play off the two teams that will compete in the Elitserien in the coming season. The best three teams of the Allsvenskan are directly qualified, the teams in places 4 to 7 compete against each other in play-off rounds to determine the last starter.

- The two worst teams in Allsvenskan have to play against the four best teams in Division 1. There it is played out who plays in the Allsvenskan in the following season.

Playing times
2006
Halmstad Hammers played in the HockeyAllsvenskan 2005/06, but due to their bankruptcy, the team was excluded from the league. In the Kvalseries 2006 Malmö Redhawks and Skellefteå AIK rose to the Elitserien, Leksands IF and Södertälje SK relegated to the Allsvenskan.
IFK Arboga IK and Hammarby IF had to go into the relegation round, but were able to prevail there and thus secure relegation. Huddinge IK was promoted to the Allsvenskan.
2007
In the 2007 Kval series, Södertälje SK was promoted to the Elitserien and Skellefteå AIK also qualified. The Malmö Redhawks, however, relegated to the Allsvenskan and Rögle BK, Leksands IF and IF Björklöven did not succeed in advancing to the Elitserien.
Huddinge IK and IFK Arboga IK had to compete in the relegation round. However, Arboga decided not to participate due to their poor financial situation and was relegated without a fight. Huddinge was able to avoid relegation and Borås HC was promoted to Allsvenskan.
2008
In the 2008 Kval series, Rögle BK rose to the Elitserien and Brynäs IF also qualified. Mora IK were relegated to the Allsvenskan and the Malmö Redhawks, Leksands IF and Västerås IK did not get promoted to the Elitserien.
Huddinge IK and Hammarby IF had to compete in the relegation round. However, Hammarby decided not to participate due to their poor financial situation and was relegated without a fight. IF Troja-Ljungby and Mariestads BoIS succeeded in promotion to the Allsvenskan, and Huddinge was able to avoid relegation, as Nyköpings Hockey was excluded from the league due to a poor financial situation.
2009
In the Kvalserien, the last two of the Elitserien, Södertälje SK and Rögle BK , met the four best teams of Allsvenskan. The two first-class teams prevailed, while Leksands IF, AIK Hockey, Västerås IK and Växjö Lakers HC remain in Allsvenskan.
The Mariestads BoIS finished last in the main round of the Allsvenskan and was relegated directly to Division 1. The Huddinge IK and the Nybro Vikings IF had to compete in the relegation round. In this, the Örebro HK prevailed from Division 1 and rose to the Allsvenskan, while the Huddinge IK and the Nybro Vikings IF were relegated to the third division.
