The Mora IK (also Mora Hockey ) is a Swedish ice hockey club from Mora . The club was founded in 1935 and has a professional men's team that participates in the second highest division, HockeyAllsvenskan .

history

Mora IK was the first ice hockey club in the historic Dalarna province . In the 1945/46 season he reached the top division for the first time, which was then called the Svenska series . After that, the club was mostly represented in this class until 1975. The descent in that year coincided with the establishment of the Elitserien as the new top division. This was followed by 29 years in the second division, with the team often reaching the qualifying games for the Elitserien, but ultimately not making it up.

At the beginning of the current century the team got better and better. After they had successfully completed the 2003/04 season, a qualifying round was due. The games against local rivals Leksands IF could both be won. Then Leksands IF won against other teams in the qualifying round and thus helped Mora IF, who won 6: 3 against Hammarby IF in the last qualifying game , to rise.

In the 2004/05 season, the club was able to strengthen itself with several players from the NHL , including Marián Hossa , Shawn Horcoff , Dan Cleary and Andreas Lilja , since a player strike and lockout took place in North America. The club spent the main round mainly in midfield or in better places. At the end of the season, however, a deterioration occurred and so Mora IK missed the play-off round due to the poorer goal difference. The team reached the final round, however, in the 2005/06 season - in the round of 16, HV 71 Jönköping was the opponent and was too big a hurdle. Mora IK won at least one of the five games. In the 2007/08 Kvalserien , the team lost their place in the highest Swedish professional league to Rögle BK and played second class until 2016.

In the league relegation 2017, the club managed to return to the top division as champions of Allsvenskan when Mora defeated Leksands IF with 4-2 wins.
