history

IF Björklöven was founded in 1970 when the ice hockey departments of IFK Umeå and Sandåkerns SK , two renowned Swedish ice hockey teams , merged. In 1976 they were promoted to the first division, after the direct relegation and promotion in 1978, they managed to establish themselves in the Elitserien and to become one of the most successful Swedish ice hockey teams of the 1980s.

After the championship in 1987, the second runner-up after 1982 succeeded again the next year, but at the end of the next season, relegation to the second division was followed by a severe setback, from which the club has not been able to recover properly until today. If you rose again in the 1990s several times in the Elitserien, the team never managed to stay in the top division permanently. Due to financial problems Björklöven received no license for the Allsvenskan in the 2010/11 season and was relegated to the third division, Division 1 . On April 5, 2013, he was promoted to the Allsvenskan again.
