Daniel Rahimi ( Persian دانیال رحيمي; * April 28, 1987 in Umeå ) is an Iranian - Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Växjö Lakers Hockey in the Swedish Svenska Hockeyligan since April 2017 . He is the son of an Iranian and a Swede.

Career

Rahimi played with the IF Björklöven juniors during his youth . At the age of 16 he came in the 2003/04 season to first appearances in the U18 team of the club, which played in the J18 Allsvenskan , the highest Swedish league in this age group. In ten games, the defender scored three points, but could not prevent relegation. In the meantime, he also played on the U20 team a few times. In the following season, Rahimi was used in both the U18 and U20 juniors. Since he made promotion to the J20 SuperElit with the U20 at the end of the season , he played first-class junior ice hockey again in the following season. The defender was used in 26 games and scored nine points scorer. In addition, he contributed five points in six playoff games.

In the course of the 2005/06 season Rahimi had also been brought into the Björklövens professional squad for the first time and had completed six games for the senior team in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan . He was then selected in the summer of 2006 in the NHL Entry Draft in the third round in 82nd place by the Vancouver Canucks . They signed the now 19-year-old a few weeks after the draft, but decided in the fall that he should spend another season in his home country. Rahimi completed the 2006/07 season again in Sweden. He played 33 games for the seniors and got two scorer points and five games for the U20 juniors. Following the season in Europe, the Canucks brought the defender to North America. There they used him in five games with their farm team , the Manitoba Moose , in the American Hockey League . But in the 2007/08 season the Swede was part of the Moose squad, but during the course of the season he often shuttled between the AHL squad and the Victoria Salmon Kings from the ECHL , who also cooperated with the Vancouver Canucks. By the end of the game year, Rahimi had played 41 games for Manitoba and 19 for Victoria. The defensively oriented defender had each scored five points. The 2008/09 season he spent entirely at the Moose in the AHL. However, he was only used in the regular season. In the playoffs, in which Manitoba failed only in the final of the Calder Cup to the Hershey Bears , he was not used. Nevertheless, he was one of the players who had developed positively over the course of the season.

During the summer break, Rahimi was part of a transfer deal when the Canucks gave him and Patrick White to the San Jose Sharks in late August . In return, Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich moved to Vancouver. Since the Sharks saw no way to accommodate Rahimi in the NHL squad and did not want to use him in the AHL, they loaned him to Rögle BK from the Swedish Elitserien for the 2009/10 season . Subsequently, his contract in San Jose was not renewed and he moved to the 2010/11 season within the Elitserien to HV 71 Jönköping , with whom he had also participated in the first edition of the European Trophy in the preparation for the season . In the further course of the season he also came on loan to four appearances for IF Troja-Ljungby in HockeyAllsvenskan. In summer 2012 he was signed by the Elitserien-participant Linköpings HC .

In April 2016 HC Davos announced Rahimi's commitment from the Swiss National League A (NLA). After a year with Graubünden, Rahimi moved back to his Swedish homeland and was signed by Växjö Lakers Hockey in April 2017 .

International

For his home country Sweden Rahimi took part in the junior division of the U20 World Junior Championships 2007 , which was also held in Sweden. There he finished fourth with his team after losing in the semifinals to Russia and in the game for third place against the United States . The defender played all seven games of his team. He remained pointless and collected 18 penalty minutes.

With the Swedish national team he finished third at the 2014 World Cup. During the tournament he played two games.
