European Trophy
The European Trophy was a European hockey - tournament for club teams . After the 2009/10 Champions Hockey League was canceled, the Nordic Trophy , which was limited to Scandinavia , was extended to all of Europe in 2010, creating the European Trophy. In the first edition 18 teams from seven nations took part, in the second year the competition was expanded to 24 and in the third year to 32 teams. The Red Bulls Salute served as the final tournament of the competition . The fourth and final edition was also held with 32 teams.
The Champions Hockey League has been held instead since the 2014/15 season .
The tournament director was Bo Lennartsson .

2010 edition
The 18 teams were divided into two groups of nine teams each. Each team played once against every other team in the group, making a total of eight games, half of them at home. Some clubs did not play in their regular home halls, but in smaller halls. The first four teams in each group qualified for the final Red Bulls Salute tournament in Salzburg and Zell am See , for which the organizer EC Red Bull Salzburg was selected. The final tournament was played in knockout mode.
Held in 2011
The 24 teams were divided into four groups of six teams each. Each team played once against every other team in the group, plus three games against teams from other groups. Each team had eight games, half of them at home. In addition to the hosts Red Bulls Salzburg, the four group winners and the three runners-up with the best points qualified for the Red Bulls Salute final tournament in Vienna and Salzburg. The final tournament was played in knockout mode.
2012 edition
The 32 teams were divided into four groups of eight teams each. Each team played twice against a local rival in its group (home and away games) and once against the other six teams in its group (three home and three away games). Eight games per team were achieved again. For the first time, the final tournament did not take place in Salzburg, but in Vienna and the Slovak capital Bratislava . In addition to the two hosts Vienna and Bratislava, the four group winners and the best group runners-up qualified for the final tournament. The final tournament was played in knockout mode.
2013 edition
In 2013, the same teams played in the same group division as in the previous year. Only the home rights of the teams were exchanged. The final tournament took place in Berlin . For the first time only six teams qualified for the final tournament, in addition to the host Eisbären Berlin, the winners of the four preliminary round groups and the best runner-up.
