Brynäs IF is a Swedish sports club from Gävle founded in 1912 , which is best known for its ice hockey team , which was only founded in 1939. This has been Swedish men's championship 13 times so far , most recently in 2012.
The men's ice hockey team was also in the final of the Elitserien nine times . The home arena Gavlerinken Arena was built in 2006 and holds 8,292 spectators. The most famous ex-players are the former NHL superstar Börje Salming and Mats Näslund , who was also successful in the NHL .
The men's soccer team is less successful, but they became Swedish national champions in 1925. The team still missed the qualification for Allsvenskan , in which they played for one season in 1974 , but from which they immediately relegated with only two wins.
