The Gavlerinken Arena is a multi-purpose hall in the Swedish city of Gävle . The hall is the venue for the games of the ice hockey club Brynäs IF from the Svenska Hockeyligan , the highest Swedish league . It is located between the Gunder Hägg Stadium, which was formerly called the Gavlestadion , and Gävletravet in the Sätra district.

history

The hall was inaugurated in 1967 under the name Gavlerinken as a replacement for the Gävle Isstadion . At that time it held 9,062 spectators, of which 3,200 were seated. In the course of time it was rebuilt several times, whereby the total number of spectator seats was reduced in favor of more seats to 8,265 today. For concerts , this number can be increased to 11,000 through temporary renovations.

The Gavlerinken was bought from the Brynäs IF association in 2005 by the city of Gävle and renovated in 2006 for around SEK 160 million . The naming rights were sold to the company Leaf , which renamed the arena Läkerol Arena . In 2014 the city regained the naming rights and renamed the venue the Gavlerinken Arena .

In the arena, the Melodifestivalen , the Swedish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , 2007 and 2016 and the final tournament of the Euro Hockey Tour 2006/07 took place.
