Joel Kellman (born May 25, 1994 in Karlskrona ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL) since April 2019 and for their farm team , the San Jose Barracuda , in the American Hockey League (AHL) plays on the position of the center .
Career
Kellman learned to play ice hockey in the offspring of the club in his hometown, Karlskrona HK . The trained striker played there in the junior division until the summer of 2010, before the then 16-year-old moved to the Malmö Redhawks' squad . In the following three years Kellman played there in the U18 and U20 team of the club, including in the J20 SuperElit . In the 2012/13 season he led the U20 team as team captain and also made his debut for the professional team in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan . The attacker also came on loan at Borås HC in third-class Division 1 , in which he also scored his first goal in a men's team. For the 2013/14 season he then moved to HV71 in Jönköping , where he was also active in the U20 and won the Swedish U20 championship with the team. He also made his debut for Jönköping in the Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL).
After Kellman had already spent a large part of the 2013/14 season at his home club in Karlskrona in HockeyAllsvenskan through a loan deal, he moved back to his hometown for the 2014/15 season . As the team's top scorer in the main round, he led the team into qualification for the Svenska Hockeyligan, where he made a decisive contribution to Karlskrona's promotion to the SHL with four goals in as many games. With the center forward in the squad, Karlskrona spent the following three seasons in the Swedish elite league. After relegation at the end of the 2017/18 season , Kellman left the club and moved to Brynäs IF within the SHL . With 34 scorer points in 45 games, he confirmed the previous season's point scoring at his new club, but needed six fewer games, whereupon he received an offer from the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL) in April 2019 .
The Swede then moved to North America for the 2019/20 season . In the San Joses franchise , Kellman started the season with the San Jose Barracuda farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL). After 25 missions there with 16 scorer points, he was finally appointed to the Sharks NHL squad in December 2019.
International
Kellman never appeared in the Swedish junior national teams. The striker only made his debut in the shirt of the Swedish national team in December 2018 . In the course of the 2018/19 season, he also played on the Euro Hockey Tour .
