Tomáš Hertl (born November 12, 1993 in Prague ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League since June 2013 and plays for them on the position of the center .

Career

Hertl began his career at HC Slavia Prague and went through all the youth departments there. In the 2010/11 season he came for the first time for Slavia's professional team in the top Czech division Extraliga . From the following season he was part of the regular Slavia Prags squad. He scored 25 scorer points in 38 games and was named Extraliga Rookie of the Year after the season . In the 2012 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the first round at a total of 17th position by the San Jose Sharks . In the 2012/13 Extraliga season, Hertl was the most successful goalscorer and point collector at HC Slavia Prague with 18 goals and a total of 30 points from 43 games.

On June 3, 2013, Hertl signed an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks. On October 3, 2013, he played his first NHL game, in which he was an assist. He scored the first NHL goal of his career in the next game on October 5 against the Phoenix Coyotes , it was also the game-winning goal. On October 8, 2013, he scored four goals in the game against the New York Rangers in his third NHL game. In October 2013, Hertl scored a total of eight goals in 13 games and a total of eleven points scorer, whereupon he was named NHL rookie of the month .

International

Tomáš Hertl represented his home country for the first time with the Czech national team at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2011 and scored one goal in six games. At the U20 Junior World Championships in 2012 and 2013 , he scored five points in six games in both tournaments, and in the end he finished fifth with his team.

Hertl made his first appearance for the Czech men's team at the 2013 World Cup , where he remained unsuccessful in points and medals in eight games. In September 2016 he was supposed to be part of the Czech squad at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 , but canceled due to an injury.
