↑ Extraliga |
The Chance liga ( officially 1. česká hokejová liga) is the second highest division in Czech ice hockey . The league, which was formed in 1993 when the Czech Republic separated from Slovakia, is run by the Czech Ice Hockey Federation . The winner of the play-offs of the 1st division is entitled to participate in the extraliga delegation.
history
The league was founded in 1993 after Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia . Above the 1st division, the Extraliga, the highest Czech division, was created, while the third division, the 2nd division, was set up in two regional groups as the substructure of the 1st division.
In the first years of its existence, the league consisted of 14 teams that played 38 games in the regular season and played two teams in the playoffs that were allowed to participate in the relegation for the extra league. Before the start of the playoffs, a qualifying round was inserted, in which the teams in positions five to twelve played off the quarter-final opponents for the four first-placed teams. The last two teams, however, played a relegation for promotion or relegation against the champions of the third division. As early as 1994, the number of games was increased to 40 and the relegation mode changed: the four best teams in the 2nd division took part in a relegation round with the two last places in the 1st division, as the extra division was increased by two teams. A year later, only two places in the first division were played in the relegation.
From the 1996/97 season, the number of games during the regular season was increased to 52 (26 home and away games per team). In return, the playoffs were abolished, and the two best-placed teams qualified directly for the Extraliga relegation. From 1997 only one team qualified for relegation, as the Extraliga teams strived for greater continuity in their league membership. Before the 1999/2000 season, the mode was changed again, they returned to 40 season games and the playoff mode, but only the eight best teams from the preliminary round were allowed to participate. The remaining six teams played in another double round (5 home and 5 away games each) from the two participants in the 1st league relegation. As of 2001, only the last four teams participated in this playdown series, and three years later the playdowns were again abolished. the number of preliminary round matches was increased to 52 again.
In the 2006/07 season no relegation was carried out in the 1st division, as the league should be increased to 16 teams. From 2007/08 they played in two regional groups, first a double round with all participants and then another double round in the regional groups, so that a total of 44 season games were completed. This was followed by pre-playoffs, in which the teams in positions three to six had to qualify for the quarter-finals. In the playdowns of the teams placed last, the two direct relegated teams were played off in the second division.
