Club history

VHK Vsetín player, Přerov 2010

Ice hockey was played in Vsetín at the beginning of the 20th century. The year the SK Vsetín was founded is 1934, even if gaming was not started until 1938. In Czechoslovakia Vsetín never played higher class. After the regime change sponsors could be attracted, whereby top players could be engaged. In 1994 HC Zbrojovka Vsetín, the club's name at the time, won the first division (the second highest division) and rose to the extra league, which the club was to dominate in the next few years. Between 1995 and 1999 all five championship titles were secured. In 2000 HC Slovnaft Vsetín had to admit defeat to HC Sparta Prague in the final , only one year later the club secured their sixth and, for the time being, last championship title. In April 2001, club patron Roman Zubík was arrested, the team then fell apart, it was only enough for ninth place. In the following season, the youngest team in the league reached seventh place. In the 2003/2004 season the financial difficulties were partially resolved, after two years the club had at least one main sponsor again. It went badly in terms of sport, the penultimate place was at the end of the season. In 2004/2005 it was enough for twelfth place.

During the 2006/07 season the club had financial problems and some top performers left the club. Before the following season, the club was then denied membership in the extra league. Vsetín was also not allowed to play in the first division , so the men's team was stopped. A year later it was announced that Vsetínská hokejová had acquired a third division license for the 2008/09 season.

In 2017, the club's first team made it to the second-rate first division.
