Jiří Dopita (born December 2, 1968 in Šumperk , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Olomouc in the Czech 1st division since 2011 .
Career
He began his professional career in 1989 in the 1st division of Czechoslovakia with HC Dukla Jihlava . After his first season he moved to TJ DS Olomouc and played there until 1993. The team had been renamed HC Olomouc during this time. The NHL had become aware of him and then the secured Boston Bruins in the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 the rights to Dopita, whom she chose as the 133rd
At the end of the 1992/93 season he moved to the German Bundesliga for the Eisbären Berlin . In the coming season he helped significantly to maintain the class and scored four goals in the relegation round in four games and prepared another four goals. Then he helped out again in the finals at HC Olomouc and was able to become Czech champion there. Back with the polar bears, he fought again to stay up, but was personally the best scorer in the 1994/95 DEL season , as he had scored more goals than John Chabot with 68 points .
From 1995 he played again in the Czech extra league with HC Petra Vsetín . By 2001 he was Czech champion six times and was not the team's top scorer in just one year. After he had not signed a contract for the NHL in Boston, he was drawn again at the age of thirty in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft (position 123), this time by the New York Islanders . Even though he continued to play in the Czech extra league for the time being, this time more intensive contacts were established with the NHL teams.
The Florida Panthers had already announced that Dopita would go hunting for goals, but the contract was broken. For the 2001/02 season he moved to the National Hockey League and played there for the Philadelphia Flyers . The following year he moved to the Edmonton Oilers , where he was only used in 21 games before he came back to the Czech Republic. He ended the season with a few games at Olomouc in the 2nd division.
From 2003 he played for HC Moeller Pardubice in his native Czech Republic. In 2004 he was again the best scorer of his team and in 2005 he was able to win the championship again with the team, which was reinforced this season due to the NHL lockout by some NHL players such as Milan Hejduk and Jan Bulis .
From the 2005/06 season he played at HC Znojemští Orli . Since the club withdrew from the Extraliga after the 2009, Dopita moved to HC Kometa Brno , whose farm team was HC Znojemští Orli. In May 2010, the now 41-year-old Dopita extended his contract with Kometa for another year after being one of the top performers on his team with 25 goals and 24 assists in the 2009/10 season. For the 2011/12 season he returned to his home club HC Olomouc in the second-class first division .
