In 2005 he went to the United States for the Chicago Chill in the Mid Atlantic Hockey League (MAHL), which he left after a year. After a season in the United States Hockey League with the Tri-City Storm, Ridderwall went to the University of Notre Dame and played for the next four years in the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

For the 2011/12 season Ridderwall began his professional career with the Boston Bruins , but was sent to the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League after the tryouts , went back to Europe after only one season and signed a contract with the Düsseldorfer EG .

In the last game of the DEL main round, Ridderwall was able to overtake Mannheim's Yanick Lehoux and was the top scorer in the preliminary round with 22 goals and 36 assists . DEG did not qualify for the playoffs . That finally earned him a nomination for Sweden's expanded squad for the Ice Hockey World Championship , but also gave him the desire for a new challenge, which he found at HC Lev Prague from the KHL . There he signed a contract for the 2013/14 season.

After Lev Prague withdrew from the KHL, Ridderwall returned to Sweden and was signed by the HV71 . A year later he returned to the KHL when he was signed by HK Sibir Novosibirsk . In the years 2016-2018 Ridderwall played at Djurgårdens IF from Stockholm in the Svenska Hockeyligan . For the 2018/19 season, Ridderwall moved to Düsseldorfer EG, where he was already the top scorer of the DEL in the 2012/13 season. He initially signed a contract with DEG for three years until 2021. In April 2019, he ended his career for private reasons.
