The 2011/12 DEL season was the 18th season since the establishment of the German Ice Hockey League , the highest league in German ice hockey . The main round started on September 16, 2011. The league consisted of 14 teams. The final ended on April 24, 2012 with the sixth title win for the Eisbären Berlin.

For the 2011/12 season, the DEL presented a new corporate design , including a new logo and a trailer film in 3D, which will be played in all DEL games in the future.

Attendees

The champions of the 2nd Bundesliga 2011 Ravensburg Towerstars had applied for a DEL license, but the license was not granted due to economic and infrastructural deficiencies.

As in previous years, a double round was played. The best six teams qualified directly for the play-offs, the teams in places 7 to 10 played two more play-off participants in best-of-three series. The quarter-final series were played in the best of seven mode, the semi-finals and finals in the best of five mode.
