The 1953/54 season of the ice hockey league was the sixth season of the highest German ice hockey league . German champion was EV Füssen , who was able to successfully defend his title and win his third championship. The last-placed Düsseldorfer EG had to be relegated , which was replaced by the winner of the second round of promotion, the Mannheim ERC . The first edition of the promotion round had to be repeated because the three participating teams EV Rosenheim , Berliner Schlittschuhclub and Mannheimer ERC had equal points. In the relegation, the penultimate, SC Weßling , was able to hold the class against EV Rosenheim.

As in the previous year, the German champions were played in a single round, so that each club played a home and an away game against the other teams. The last placed rose at the end of the season directly from the league and was replaced by the first of the promotion round, while the penultimate of the league in the relegation against the second placed in the promotion round had to defend his starting place in the top division.

The tournament ended with three teams tied on points. The round was therefore repeated on March 5-7, 1954 in Bad Nauheim . For the repetition, the goal difference was decided as an additional criterion for ranking.
