The 2010/11 DEL season was the 17th season since the founding of the German Ice Hockey League , the highest league in German ice hockey . The main round started on September 3, 2010, the play-offs on March 16. The final ended on April 19, 2011 with the Eisbären Berlin winning their fifth title .

The league consisted of 14 teams, including the defending champion Hannover Scorpions and the champions of the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga EHC Munich . The team from Munich is the first climber in DEL history to qualify for the play-offs in its first season.

Attendees

New in the league is the champions of the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga 2009/10 EHC Munich . The license of the Frankfurt Lions was withdrawn and they stopped playing. The Kassel Huskies have been conducting insolvency plan proceedings since March 2010 , as a result of which they were excluded from the DEL and their license withdrawn. The huskies took legal action against this, including through injunctions . However, the license withdrawal was confirmed by the Munich Higher Regional Court on August 24, 2010, and the preliminary injunctions were canceled by the Cologne Higher Regional Court on August 26, 2010.
