Robert "Rob" Steffen Karl Zepp (born September 7, 1981 in Newmarket , Ontario ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers until the end of the 2014/15 season . Zepp received German citizenship in spring 2008 and played regularly for the German national team until 2014 .
Career
Rob Zepp played his first 3 games for the Newmarket Hurricanes in the 1997/98 season . He then joined the Plymouth Whalers from the OHL for 3 seasons . In the 1999 NHL Entry Draft , he was drawn 99th in the fourth round by the Atlanta Thrashers . From the 2001/02 season he played for the Florida Everblades in the ECHL , but received no contract for the NHL with the Thrashers. So he was available again in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and was selected this time by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round at position 110.
He stayed with the Florida Everblades for the next two years, but also played a few short appearances in the AHL for the Lowell Lock Monsters , the Hurricanes' farm team.
In the 2005/06 season Rob Zepp moved to Europe, in the Finnish SM-liiga to SaiPa Lappeenranta . With this club he made it into the championship play-offs after a 6-year break. In the 2006/07 season he was also used for SaPKo Savonlinna. Since the 2007/08 season Rob Zepp has been playing for the Eisbären Berlin , with whom he won the German championship several times in the following years .
On July 1, 2014, the Philadelphia Flyers signed Zepp as a free agent, with a one-year two-way contract that applies to the NHL and AHL. On December 21, 2014, he made his NHL debut in the game against the Winnipeg Jets . After the season he received no further contract in Philadelphia, a return to the DEL failed due to a transfer fee of 100,000 euros to be paid. Therefore, Zepp prepared for a possible end of career.
