The Lehigh Valley Phantoms are an American ice hockey franchise based in Allentown , Pennsylvania . The franchise has been playing in the American Hockey League since the 2014/15 season .

The Phantoms play their home games in the newly built PPL Center (8,700 seats) and act as the Philadelphia Flyers' farm team .

history

In March 2011 it was announced that the farm team of the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2013/14 season of Glens Falls , New York to Allentown moves. Due to delays in the construction of the PPL Center , this project had to be postponed for a season.

On November 14, 2012 it was announced that the team will appear under the name Lehigh Valley Phantoms . The proposal prevailed against alternatives such as the Pennsylvania Phantoms or Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton Phantoms . The franchise is the successor to the Adirondack Phantoms and the third AHL location in Pennsylvania after the Hershey Bears and the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins .
