The Stockton Heat are an American ice hockey franchise based in Stockton , California . The team has played in the American Hockey League (AHL) since the 2015/16 season and acts as the farm team for the Calgary Flames .

history

In January 2015, the American Hockey League announced an extensive restructuring for the 2015/16 season , as part of which a new Pacific Division was established and five teams relocated to California . One of these five teams was the Adirondack Flames , who had only completed one season under this name. The Calgary Flames , the team's NHL collaborative partner, announced that the team would be moving to Stockton ; In addition, the team should swap places with the existing ECHL team Stockton Thunder so that the Adirondack Thunder will play in the ECHL from the start of the 2015/16 season. When choosing a name for the new AHL team, they relied on suggestions from the fans, in which the names Blaze , Inferno , Heat , Flames and Scorch were the final choices. In March 2015 it was announced that the team would operate under the name Stockton Heat .

Ryan Huska , who was previously behind the gang for the Adirondack Flames, has been named the Heat's first head coach. The Adirondack Thunder, with whom the team swapped places, acts as the new ECHL cooperation team.
