After Ryan Huska started his career with the Trail Selects , he went on the ice for the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Hockey League in 1991 and won the Memorial Cup three times with the team in 1992, 1994 and 1995 . During this time, Huska was selected in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft in the third round at position 76 by the Chicago Blackhawks . During the 1997/98 season , the attacker completed his first and only game in the National Hockey League (NHL) and went on the ice for the Chicago Blackhawks.
In September 1998 he signed as a free agent with the New York Islanders , but did not make the leap into the NHL roster of the Islanders. Huska spent the following two years with the Lowell Lock Monsters and Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League (AHL). In August 1999 Huska signed as a freelance player with the Phoenix Coyotes and then found himself again in the minor leagues . After the 1999/2000 season he ended his career as an active player.
The Canadian was after a break of several years in the 2002/03 season as assistant coach of the Kelowna Rockets in the WHL and held this position for five years. As the successor to Jeff Truitt , he took over the management of the team in the 2007/08 season. In the 2008/09 season he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the team . After a total of twelve years with the Rockets, he left the team in the summer of 2014 to become the first head coach of the newly founded Adirondack Flames from the AHL. He kept this position even after the team moved again after a year and henceforth traded as Stockton Heat . After four years in the AHL, Huska was promoted to assistant coach for the Calgary Flames from the NHL in May 2018 .
