Mark Jankowski (born September 13, 1994 in Hamilton , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League since March 2016 . The center was selected in the first round in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in 21st place by the Flames. He is the earliest selected Canadian high school player in the history of the NHL Entry Draft .
Career
Jankowski was a top scorer at the Midget AAA level , where he played for the St. Catharines Falcons in the South-Central Triple A Hockey League of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association . Nevertheless, he was not selected in the OHL Priority Selection because it was assumed that with a height of 173 centimeters he was too small to play junior ice hockey at the highest level. He then moved to Stanstead College in Stanstead in the province of Québec . In two seasons that he spent at Stanstead, he scored a total of 166 points, including 84 goals.
On the following season he moved to Providence College .
During the two seasons in Stanstead, Jankowski grew by 18 centimeters, which was not hidden from the numerous scouts . He was then also included in the OHL Priority Selection when Jankowski was pulled 130th by the Saginaw Spirit in 2012 , despite refusing to play for the team. The NHL Central Scouting Bureau ranked Jankowski for the NHL Entry Draft 2012 as the 43rd best player, which was an improvement on the previous 74th rank. The Calgary Flames voted Jankowski 21st place, making him the earliest Canadian high school player selected.
With the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Jankowski switched to the organization of the Calgary Flames and made his debut for the team in the National Hockey League (NHL) in November 2016 . Mainly, however, the attacker was used by the Stockton Heat in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Flames' farm team . In the course of the following season 2017/18 he established himself in Calgary's NHL squad.
