Rasmus Calle Alfred Andersson (born October 27, 1996 in Malmö ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League since September 2015 and plays for them in the position of defender .
Career
Andersson was born in Malmö, Sweden , while his father was playing for Malmö IF . The ice hockey games, he learned, however, the Swiss Lugano , during an engagement of his father when HC Lugano . The family then returned to Malmö, where Rasmus Andersson played in the Malmö Redhawks junior division until summer 2014 . In the 2012/13 season he made his debut for the professional team in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan , while he mainly ran for the A-Juniors in the J20 SuperElit .
In the summer of 2014, the defender was selected in the CHL Import Draft by the Barrie Colts from the Ontario Hockey League , after which he decided to move to North America. He paid no attention to the selection in the KHL Junior Draft 2013 by HC Lev Prague from the Continental Hockey League . The Swede spent two seasons with the Barrie Colts and was elected to one of the All-Star teams thanks to his at least 60 scorer points . In addition, Andersson was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2015 in the second round 53rd position by the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League .
After two years in Barrie, the junior period ended for the almost 20-year-old after he had signed an NHL entry contract with the Flames in September 2015 . In his first full professional season, the offensive defender was used by the Stockton Heat in the American Hockey League , the farm team of the Calgary Flames. At the end of the 2016/17 season , he also made his debut in the NHL for Calgary. In the following season ten more NHL appearances were added, while Andersson continued to play mainly for Stockton. At the beginning of the 2018/19 game year , Andersson was finally firmly in the NHL lineup of the Calgary Flames. In January 2020, he signed a new six-year contract in Calgary that should earn him an average annual salary of $ 4.55 million.
International
For his home country, Andersson played in the junior division from the U16 national team and subsequently took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in 2013 and 2014 and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 .

family
Anderssons comes from a family of athletes. His father Peter was also a professional ice hockey player and was active in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers , among others . As a player, he celebrated six championship wins in four European countries and three medal wins at world championships . After the end of his career, he started a coaching career. Andersson's two year older brother Calle is also a professional ice hockey player in Europe, but also played in North America at times.
