The Barrie Colts are a Canadian ice hockey team from Barrie, Ontario . The team was founded in 1978 as a junior team and has played in one of the three highest Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) , since 1994 .
history
The Barrie Colts were in 1978 as a team of OHA founded Jr. B. In the 1992/93 season, the Colts achieved their greatest success to date by winning the Sutherland Cup . In 1994 the Barrie Colts were inducted into the Ontario Hockey League and has since reached the playoffs for the J. Ross Robertson Cup every year , which they won against the Plymouth Whalers in the 1999/2000 season .
By winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup, the team qualified for participation in the Memorial Cup , in which they lost in the final L'Océanic de Rimouski from the LHJMQ . In 2002, the Colts reached the OHL final again, but this time failed to the Erie Otters .
In the 1999/2000 season, the team caused a stir after their coach Bill Stewart was suspended by the OHL, who previously smuggled a Russian player across the Canadian-US border in the team bus.
Before the OHL team there were two other teams of the same name. The first Barrie Colts played in the OHA Jr. from 1907 to 1910 before resuming gaming in 1921 at the instigation of the OHA. The team played in the OHA Jr. A and B until 1944 before being disbanded.
