The Cornwall Royals were a Canadian ice hockey team from Cornwall, Ontario . The team was active in two of Canada's top three junior ice hockey leagues, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (LHJMQ) and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 1969 to 1992 .

history

The Cornwall Royals played as an amateur team in the Central Junior A Hockey League from 1961 to 1969 . After not including the Ontario Hockey Association , the Cornwall Royas were founded in 1969 as a franchise of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League . In their third season they won the Coupe du Président for the first time when they prevailed against the Peterborough Petes . With the win they qualified for the Memorial Cup , in which they won against the Quebec Remparts . In 1980 and 1981, the Royals again won the Coupe du Président and then the Memorial Cup.

After 13 years in the LHJMQ, the Royals moved to the Ontario Hockey League in 1981 , in which they could no longer win a title, so that the franchise was relocated to Newmarket (Ontario) in 1992 , where it was then named Newmarket Royals was active in the OHL.
