Richard Stephen Tabaracci (born January 2, 1969 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who worked for the Pittsburgh Penguins , Winnipeg Jets , Washington Capitals , Calgary Flames , Tampa Bay Lightning , Atlanta during his active career between 1985 and 2001 Thrashers and Colorado Avalanche has played in the National Hockey League .
Career
Tabaracci played during his junior years between 1986 and 1989 for the Cornwall Royals in the Ontario Hockey League . During this time, he was appointed to one of the All-Star teams twice and was named OHL Goaltender of the Year in 1987 . In the NHL Entry Draft of the same year , the goalkeeper was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round in 26th place, which he then used once during the 1988/89 season and helped to his debut in the National Hockey League .
For the 1989/90 season, Tabaracci then moved permanently to the professional field after the Penguins had transferred him to the Winnipeg Jets . With him, Randy Cunneyworth and Dave McLlwain moved to the Jets, while Jim Kyte , Andrew McBain and Randy Gilhen moved to Pittsburgh. During the season, the goalkeeper was used by the Moncton Hawks in the American Hockey League and the Fort Wayne Komets in the International Hockey League . From the 1990/91 season Tabaracci was then for the following three seasons replacement keeper behind goalkeeper Bob Essensa at the Winnipeg Jets, before he was transferred to the Washington Capitals in March 1993 . Further transfers followed in April 1995 to the Calgary Flames , from there in November 1996 for Aaron Gavey to the Tampa Bay Lightning , in June 1997 back to Calgary and in August 1998 finally back to Washington. Only in Calgary and Tampa did Tabaracci go beyond the post of backup.
After his contract in Washington ran out in the summer of 1999, the goalkeeper signed a contract with the newly formed Atlanta Thrashers , which were in their NHL premier season, shortly after the start of the season . Despite the open fight for the regular place in goal - the Thrashers used four different goalkeepers in more than ten games during the season - Tabaracci could not prevail and was transferred only one month after his commitment to the Colorado Avalanche , who in return striker Shean Donovan was transferred Atlanta levies. Also there Tabaracci played in the farm teams of the franchises and found himself as a free agent before the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft back to where it the Columbus Blue Jackets selected. Since Columbus did not manage to sign the keeper, he moved to the Dallas Stars in July 2000 . In these he played in the 2000/01 season for the farm team Utah Grizzlies in the IHL.
On August 26, 2002, Tabaracci announced the official end of his playing career.
International
Tabaracci represented his home country at the 1992 , 1997 and 1999 World Championships . He won the gold medal with the team at the 1997 World Cup in Finland .
