Shean Patrick Donovan (born January 22, 1975 in Timmins , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played a total of 1000 games for the San Jose Sharks , Colorado Avalanche , Atlanta Thrashers , Pittsburgh Penguins , Calgary Flames between 1995 and 2010 , Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League on the right winger position . Donovan celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the 1997 World Cup .
Career
Donovan played four years from 1991 to 1995 during his junior years with the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League . During this time he participated in the 1995 World Junior Championship and won the gold medal with the Canadian national team.
After he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1993 in the second round in 28th position by the San Jose Sharks , they took him during the 1994/95 season under contract. The Canadians remained the team to the 1997/98 season faithful in and also played in the 1997 World Series , where he won the second gold medal of his career, before he, together with the first-round draft pick of the Sharks in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft for Mike Ricci to Colorado Avalanche has been submitted. In 1999/00 he was transferred to the newly founded Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for goalkeeper Rick Tabaracci . This put him on the waiver list towards the end of the 2001/02 season, from where the Pittsburgh Penguins selected him. After another move to the Calgary Flames in March 2003, Donovan's best NHL year followed in the 2003/04 season with 42 points in 82 games and reaching the final series of the Stanley Cup , where the Flames were subject to the Tampa Bay Lightning .
Due to the lockout in the NHL during the 2004/05 season , Donovan moved to Europe. There he played for a year for HC Servette Genève in the Swiss National League A before returning to the Flames for the 2005/06 season . After the season you did not extend his expiring contract, whereupon the Canadian went as a free agent to the Boston Bruins . From the 2007-08 season he played for the Ottawa Senators . After three seasons, however, his contract in Ottawa was not extended.
In November 2010, he ended his career after initially participating in the Syracuse Crunch training camp .
